What is excessive hair loss? All men and women lose hair, it is natural to do so. The average person will shed an average of 15 to 40 hairs each day. Hair goes through three growth cycles. The Anagen, or growth phase, will last anywhere from 2 – 6 years. The next phase is the Catagen phase. During this time, hair growth ceases. The Catagen phase will last for about 10 days. The last phase is the Telogen phase when the hair is shed. This cycle will usually last for about three months. In individuals with health follicles, about 90% of the hair on the scalp will be in the Anagen or growth phase. When a follicle is not healthy, the hair growth cycle becomes shorter and the follicle will stay in the Telogen phase for longer periods of time. As more hairs stay in the Telogen phase, less new hairs are being produced. The result is thinning and ultimately, balding. So what should you do if this is happening to you?We at Vito Mazza Salon and Spa have a procedure called Laser Hair Therapy, which may help many men and women in this situation.
