The Red Lip is the ONE beauty trend that has stood the test of time. Over the last few years, more and more women are wearing a bold lip not only on the runways, but in everyday life. Bright and bold lips are making a comeback!

The color red is a bold choice that will invoke your inner vixen! Every skin tone has their own shades/tones that will compliment them best.  For ladies with fair skin tones it is important to stay away from the red/brown color family. This color will do nothing but make your complexion lackluster and dull. Stick with the brighter reds that have a more orange base. Ladies with the medium/olive skin tone can go deeper with their shade choices. You can go more for the berry toned red colors because these tones look great against your skin.  For darker skin tones, red is your best friend!  It looks gorgeous against your skin tone and is very flattering! You can go from cherry red, to the berry tone and the red/brown shades.

Now that we have your color picked it is important to go over some simple steps to work the red lip:

STEP 1:

Prep your lips by using a lip exfoliant.  We recommend Alexandria Buff-Up Lime Lemonade Lip Exfoliant ($10) to gently exfoliate lips with a damp wash cloth and then wipe clean. Then apply the Mirabella Perfecting Lip Definer ($20) to the lips area. This pencil will lock in moisture and prevent lipsticks from bleeding and feathering.  Don’t skip the lip definer; nothing is worse than a red lip that is bleeding and feathering into the skin around the mouth!

STEP 2:

Dust a translucent powder along the edges of the lip with a powder brush.  Line the lips following the natural lip line.  Fill the entire lip area in with the lip liner to ensure the color stays put! For the photos shown below we used Mirabella Lip Definer ($16) in Cherry.

STEP 3:

Apply the lip color. For the photos shown below we used Mirabella Red Velvet Lip Pencil ($23).

If you went outside the lip line, try this quick fix- take a lip brush dipped in concealer and outline your lip area blending in the concealer with the brush.  Then you can reapply the translucent powder to set the lip.
